Continuing Anglican BlogRing Welcome to the
 Continuing Anglican BlogRing
Continuing Anglican BlogRing

The Continuing Anglican BlogRing is a web ring for blogs by, about and related to Continuing Anglican churches and provinces (jurisdictions).

What is a web ring, and where do I find this one?

A webring (or "web ring") is a list of sites with a common interest or purpose, in this case Continuing Anglican churches. The key element of a webring is that each member site contains a "navigation bar" (herein: navbar) that links them in a ring. By clicking on the "Next" link in the navbar, one goes from the current site to the next in the ring, eventually returning to the original site. (The image to the right presents a few of the blogs in the Continuing Anglican BlogRing, approximately in the order encountered when navigating the "Next" links.)

(Note: I call this a "BlogRing" instead of a "webring" for the simple reason that the websites in it are all blogs.)

There are often other methods of navigation available. Sometimes one can get a list of sites in the ring and select one of interest. One can sometimes request a site randomly selected from the list of members.

The primary reason for joining your blog into this webring is "traffic." People who traverse the Continuing Anglican BlogRing clearly have an interest in Continuing Anglican churches, and being a member of the webring makes it easier for them to find your blog. (This was why the Continuing Anglican BlogRing was formed in the first place; I knew there a number of such blogs Out There, but I didn't know who or where they were.)

The Continuing Anglican BlogRing starts here. If you run into a blog on this ring that does not have a navbar installed (there are some right now; I am working on those), I suggest returning to the previous site and/or getting the list.

Requirements for joining the Continuing Anglican BlogRing

To join the Continuing Anglican BlogRing, your site needs to meet the following requirements:
- It must be a blog (web log).
- It should be from within or about a Continuing Anglican church. (This is a somewhat loose rule.)
- Within a few days of joining, your blog must display a Continuing Anglican BlogRing navigation bar. (I am available to help, if need be -- though I know nothing of "WordPress" blogs, and my own familiarity is limited to blogspot.com.)

How to join the Continuing Anglican BlogRing

(Please, before you begin, take detailed notes on the process and send them to me so I can refine these directions -- particularly if something didn't go right, was unexpected, or was difficult to find.)

1. Be sure you know how to edit/insert HTML code in your blog's source code, because you will need to add the HTML for a "navigation bar" (navbar). (In step 4 I mention how to do it on BlogSpot; if you are having difficulties contact me.)

2. Sign up here. Enter the information about your blog. The "Site ID" is a username you make up. Some people make up a Site ID that refers to their site, or they make up a screen-name, or use their own name.

You can manage (change or update) your site information at the URL:
  http://www.webringworld.org/cgi-bin/ringlink/siteadmin.pl?ringid=CABR;siteid=SITEID
("CABR" is this ring's ID, SITEID is the "Site ID you entered in step 2.

3. I will be notified of your request to join the next time I check in as ringmaster.

two navbars 4. At some point in the process, I believe right after submitting the request, you will be given some HTML code to be used as a navbar for your site. You will be given the option of a "block" navbar, or you have the option of a "single-line" navbar (there is a URL to click for that option). You also have the option of using the code supplied below for a "graphic" navbar, or even simple HTML links.

The image to the right shows the block navbar as it appeared on Continuing Home when the ring was being set up; it also shows the "vertical" graphic navbar, supporting more options. If you have questions, contact me.

Once you have decided which code to use, you must add it to your blog's source somewhere so that it will appear on your blog.

For my blog on Blogspot, I sign into my blogger account, go to the Dashboard, select "Change Settings", select the Template tab, go about 80% of the way down to where I see the source HTML for the links, and just above the links is where I would insert the navigation bar code. The following image is what I saw when I added the code to my blog:

This shows the context of the code (what it produces on the blog's page -- observe that you can identify the links) above:

You MUST add navbar code to your blog; failure to add or keep the code on the blog will break the ring. Ringmasters are encouraged to check and remove sites that break the ring. Already I've received a complaint about sites on the ring that have not installed a navbar.
